Get your words out of Word
Open a .docx file and get its content as Markdown, HTML or plain text. The converter reads the document’s XML directly and keeps the structure:
- Headings: detected from Word’s heading styles (including documents where style names are localised), so they become
#,##and so on; - bold, italic and strikethrough;
- links, including their addresses;
- bullet and numbered lists, with nesting, using the document’s own list definitions;
- tables, converted to Markdown tables;
- quotes and code-style paragraphs.
Headers, footers, comments and deleted tracked changes are left out; inserted tracked changes are included.
Why convert locally
Many online converters upload your document to their servers. This one runs entirely in your browser, so drafts, contracts and manuscripts stay on your device. OpenDocument (.odt) files are supported as plain text.
Use the Markdown output in static site generators, wikis, GitHub, Obsidian or Notion, or open it in the Markdown Editor to keep editing.
Questions
How do I convert a Word document to Markdown?
Drop the .docx file here. The Markdown appears immediately; copy it or download a .md file.
Does it keep tables and lists?
Yes. Lists keep their type and nesting, and tables become Markdown tables.
